“After approving in-helmet radio devices for football competitions this spring, the NCAA’s experimentation with various methods of coach-to-player communication is expanding at the Division III level.
The Liberty League recently had a proposal of experimental use for in-game play calling technology provided by GoRout approved by the NCAA – and will now have its seven teams institute GoRout’s game system, GoRout Gridiron, across in-conference football games (and out-of-conference matchups if their opponent consents) during the 2024-25 season.
This pilot will mark GoRout’s first go-around in live football competition, although its diamond sports product is used by more than 400 college baseball/softball teams and practice-focused football system, GoRout Scout, by multiple NFL clubs and big-name college programs including Alabama, Auburn and Rutgers.
Here is how it works: from the sideline, coaches dictate play calls from a tablet, which beams instruction to wearable devices on athletes’ wrist or waistbands. GoRout Scout conveys those play calls through diagrams, while Gridiron displays simple text.”
